Bhubaneswar: Archana Soreng, a climate activist, has been selected by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres as part of the new advisory group comprising young leaders who will provide perspective and solutions to tackle climate crisis.
Soreng belongs to the Khadia tribe and hails from Sundargarh district of Odisha. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated her for being appointed to the UN Advisory Group. She has joined the advisory group along with six others from around the world.
Soreng has studied Regulatory Governance from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, and is a former TISS Student’s Union president.
The young activists, aged between 18 to 28 years, will advise the UN chief on tackling the current climate crisis and global action.
Guterres said in a video conference: “We need urgent attention now to recover better from Covid-19 and young people are the frontline on climate action."
