Odisha's Covid tally crosses 11,000

Bhubaneswar: The number of Covid-19 positive cases in Odisha has crossed 11,000 as the state recorded its highest spike of 577 new cases.

This is the third consecutive day that the state recorded more than 500 positive cases. The number of deaths touched 52 on Thursday. 

In Ganjam, the worst affected district of Odisha, the district administration has ordered a five-day shutdown of the urban areas. Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange has imposed the shutdown till July 23. 

During this period, the district's health workers will screen door to door more than 7 lakh households.

The Collector & District Magistrate of Ganjam had tweeted on Wednesday that all Government offices and banks in urban areas will be closed for general public. The administration has allowed only essential services like milk van, medicine stores and ambulance services. 

In view of the increase in spread of Covid-19 cases, the Odisha Government has requested the East Coast Railway not to permit any boarding of passengers in Ganjam district and 
Balugaon till further advice.

Also, 15 Covid warriors (five doctors & 10 nurses) from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR ) in Burla, western Odisha, have been sent to quarantine as they reportedly came in contact with a patient undergoing treatment whose test report later came positive.
