Odisha plans to go for sane, lane driving


Bhubaneswar: Taking a leaf out of major cities, the National Highway Commissionerate Police of the twin cities of Bhubaneswar & Cuttack has proposed to implement the lane driving system to curb accidents and vehicular congestion.

A proposal in this regard has been submitted to the Home Department, Govt of Odisha, to segregate vehicles for the left lane, middle & right Lane on National Highway-16 connecting Cuttack & Bhubaneswar. The extreme left lane is meant for two wheelers, the middle lane for heavy vehicles like buses & right is for cars so that travel time between the cities can be reduced and commuters made to stick to the speed limit.

Police said that the lane driving plan was aimed at preventing road mishaps. According to the plan, the three-lane roads on both sides of NH will be demarcated.

The marking of lanes will be done by thermoplastic paint, installing signage and gantries every two km on the National Highway. DCP, Traffic, Sagarika Nath said if the plan & proposal to the Govt is approved, it will be definitely reduce roadaccidents on the NH and the commuters will drive safely according to the guidelines.
