Covid Kit

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has made arrangements to conduct speedy antigen tests at all containment zones, hotspots and Covid care points at the district level.

The state government plans to procure 1 lakh standard Q COVID Antigen kits. Of these, 5,000 kits have already arrived in the state capital and another 20,000 are expected in a few days' time.

The kit costs Rs 450 per unit and comes with an inbuilt testing device for sample collection. This kit has been developed by a South Korean company, SD Biosenser, which has a manufacturing unit in Manesar, Gurugram.

The ICMR has advised all the states to purchase the antigen kits from this manufacturer.

Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, Additional Chief Secretary in the Health & Family Welfare Department, said that of the 5,000 kits, 2,500 have been sent to the worst affected Ganjam district, 2,000 to SCB Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack, and the rest have been reserved for Bhubaneswar till more kits are delivered here.

According to the ICMR, antigen tests are a useful tool for early diagnosis of the Corona infection and the test results can be known in less than 30 minutes.

As Covid positive cases in Ganjam district are showing an alarming upswing, the District Collector has initiated door-to-door screening tests in the urban areas. The antigen tests are scheduled to start on Tuesday as per the guidelines.

Teams have been formed with 200 members to carry out the massive screening exercise. The spots where the screening would take place would be shut three-four days for other requirements.
