Recently, after heavy rains, three students preparing for civil services died tragically in the basement of a coaching centre in the old Rajendra Nagar area of ​​Delhi due to waterlogging.

Delhi Coaching Centre Tragedy: Complaints of waterlogging due to heavy rains have become common in the national capital. If there is heavy rain during the monsoon season, the hollow claims of the government are exposed, but the Delhi government does not pay heed to it.

Recently, after heavy rains, three students preparing for civil services died tragically in the basement of a coaching centre in the old Rajendra Nagar area of ​​Delhi due to waterlogging.

The Delhi Fire Department received information about waterlogging in the basement from IAS Study Circle of Rau at around 7 pm on Saturday.

DCP (Central Delhi) M Harsh Vardhan told media persons, “The caller told us that some people are likely to be trapped. We are investigating how the entire basement got filled. It appears that the basement got filled with water very fast, due to which some people got trapped inside.”

The students protested over the death of their fellow candidates and raised slogans against the officials. Delhi Revenue Minister Atishi directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to start an investigation into the incident and submit the report within 24 hours.

On the Old Rajinder Nagar coaching centre accident in Delhi, Mayor Shaili Oberoi said, “It is sad that 3 children have died. I have written to the MCD commissioner to take strict action against all such coaching centres across Delhi which are under the jurisdiction of MCD and are running commercial activities in basements which are violating building bylaws and not as per norms.”

‘The completion certification of this building in Rajinder Nagar was given in 2021 and it clearly states that the basement will be used only for parking and storage… We should not play the blame game and take action against those responsible… The way it is raining in Delhi, 88 years of record have been broken and there is a problem of waterlogging, but MCD, PWD, and Delhi Jal Board are working 24 hours to give relief to the people of Delhi.”

Criminal case registered
The Delhi Police has registered a criminal case and said that it is determined to find out the truth in this tragic incident where three people lost their lives due to the collapse of a basement building in Rajendra Nagar, New Delhi The coaching institute was flooded.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Central M Harsh Vardhan said, “We have registered a criminal case. Our forensic teams are here. The process of collecting forensic evidence is underway. We are committed to the fact that we should conduct a proper investigation. We are committed to register a strong case and find out the truth. So far two people have been detained.”

Action will be taken against coaching centres running in basements
A day after three civil services aspirants died due to flooding caused by rain in the basement of a coaching centre, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Sunday directed that strict action be taken against commercial activities running in basements.

Oberoi directed the MCD commissioner to take strict action against all such coaching centres across Delhi which are under the jurisdiction of the MCD and are running commercial activities in basements, which she said is a violation of building bylaws and not as per norms.
