International Yoga Day 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Srinagar today, June 20, to participate in the International Yoga Day festivities on Friday, June 21, marking his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since beginning his third consecutive term as the PM.
The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga, which is celebrated every June 21, is ‘Yoga for Self and Society’.
A PTI official revealed that Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to engage in a Yoga session with more than 7,000 participants on June 21 at the beautiful Dal Lake to commemorate International Yoga Day. According to officials, the participants have undergone training in the Yoga ‘Asanas’ that the PM will be performing over the last three days.
In addition to taking part in the ‘Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K’ event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, the PM will also be inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for various development projects.
An official handout from the Press Information Bureau stated, “On 21st June, at around 6.30 AM, the prime minister will participate in the 10th International Day of Yoga event at SKICC in Srinagar. The Prime Minister will address the gathering and take part in the CYP Yoga session thereafter.”
A statement from the Press Information Bureau revealed that the prime minister will be participating in the 10th International Day of Yoga event at SKICC in Srinagar at around 6.30 AM on 21st June. During the event, the Prime Minister will deliver a speech and join the CYP Yoga session.
Prior to the International Yoga Day event, numerous yoga enthusiasts gathered at Wharf, which offers a view of the Potomac River, to participate in the celebrations. Sripriya Ranganathan, India’s Deputy Ambassador to the US, expressed that yoga provides guidance for establishing harmony and balance, leading to a brighter future for society. The event commenced with prayers and Indian classical dance performances.
The Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami said, “It was a great pleasure to be able to have well over 700 people here in this central spot in London. With the iconic statues all around it. And of course, to have multiple yoga schools come here and lead us in the practice of yoga,” reported ANI.
