Himachal Pradesh cloudburst: Around 53 people are missing while the bodies of six people have been recovered after cloudbursts at six places in Himachal Pradesh swept away several villages in Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla.
According to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), six bodies have been recovered till August 3 after villages were swept away due to floods in the Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla areas of Himachal Pradesh.
DC Rana, Special Secretary, DDMA, told ANI, “The cloudburst has caused widespread devastation in Samej area of Shimla district, Rampur area, Baghipul area of Kullu and Paddar area of Mandi. 53 people are missing and six bodies have been recovered.”

Rana said that more than 60 houses were washed away and several villages were badly affected in the flash floods triggered by the cloudburst on the night of July 31 and August 1.
Rana said that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are coordinating to rescue the stranded villagers.
ANI reported that work is underway to restore the road connecting Rampur and Samaj areas, which was damaged in the flash floods.
According to a report by Chhattishgarh, the entire village of Samaj was washed away, except for one house. Survivor Anita Devi told the publication that they fled to the local temple at night and when they looked up in the morning, only her house was left.

The Himachal Pradesh State Emergency Operations Centre in its situation report mentioned that Mandi has reported the highest number of deaths at five, one of the deceased is from Kullu, while no casualties have been reported in Shimla so far, Chhattishgarh reported.
In terms of missing people, Shimla has the highest number of people missing at 33, followed by Kullu with nine people missing, and Mandi with six people missing.
55 people have been evacuated to relief camps and 25 people are reported to be stranded.
According to the BSES report, 61 houses were reported to be “fully damaged” while 42 houses were partially damaged. The report said that the maximum damage was in Kullu.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri met the affected families in the Bagi Pul area of the Kullu district and assured them of relief. He described the situation as “serious and painful” and stressed that the government was assisting the affected people.
He conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused to the Kurpan Khad water supply scheme at Bagi Pul due to flash floods on August 3. He also visited the Matiyana area of Shimla district to assess the damage caused to water supply schemes and related infrastructure and reported damage of ₹10 crore to critical components like booster, intake structure, feed line sump well, pump house, pumping machinery and pipes.
