Students’ Demonstrations
In a fresh wave of violence in Bangladesh on Sunday, police used tear gas and stun grenades to scatter tens of thousands of demonstrators demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, leaving at least 72 dead—including 14 police officers—and numerous injured.

Clashes erupted this morning as activists from the Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League opposed demonstrators attending a non-cooperation march calling for the government’s resignation.

According to a prominent Bengali-language newspaper Prothom Alo report, 72 people have died in daylong confrontations across the nation so far, according to a PTI report.

Fourteen police officers have died nationwide, according to the police headquarters. Thirteen of them were murdered inside the Enayetpur police station in Sirajganj. According to the publication, there was a single fatality in Elliotganj, Comilla.

Nationwide curfew
The Home Ministry declared an indefinite nationwide curfew starting at 6 p.m. today in response to the violence.

To curb the propagation of rumors, the government has also mandated the closure of social media sites including Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Messenger. The report further stated that the cell carriers have been told to stop providing 4G mobile internet.

Prime Minister Hasina has stated that terrorists, not students, are the ones committing acts of “sabotage” around the nation in the guise of protest. She has requested that they be firmly suppressed.

The prime minister of Bangladesh urged his people to “suppress these terrorists with a firm hand.”

With the single demand of the resignation of the government, the platform Students Against Discrimination has called for an all-out non-cooperation movement starting today.
