Delhi floods due to rain; Red alert issued for next 24 hours

Due to heavy rains for about an hour, complaints of waterlogging have been received from many places in Delhi.

Delhi Rains: Heavy rains lashed the national capital Delhi on Wednesday evening. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an advisory urging Delhi residents not to step out of their homes unless it is very important. The advisory said, “Avoid going to areas where waterlogging is a common problem.”

Due to heavy rains for about an hour, complaints of waterlogging have been received from many places in Delhi. Waterlogging caused heavy traffic jams in many areas of the capital. People were seen struggling to reach their homes due to waterlogging in many places.

A resident of Jhilmil Colony said that due to heavy rains, the Mansarovar underpass was flooded, due to which it became difficult to get e-rickshaws and other rides. There was so much water in the underpass that even vehicles drowned.

Amidst heavy rains, IMD has issued a ‘red alert’ in Delhi for the next 24 hours. The Indian Meteorological Centre (IMD) said in the evening, “Moderate to heavy rains along with thunderstorms and lightning are likely over North Delhi, Central Delhi, New Delhi, South Delhi, South-East Delhi, East Delhi, NCR in the next two hours.”

The IMD forecasts that the rainy conditions will continue till August 5. Apart from Delhi, other areas of NCR have also received light to heavy rains along with thunderstorms.
