Mumbai: San Diego was transformed into Middle-earth on Friday when Prime Video premiered the highly anticipated second season of the epic series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” Along with show creators J.D. Penn and Patrick McKay, more than a dozen cast members joined the Hall H stage for a lively and insightful conversation moderated by an Emmy-nominated actress. They noted genre fan Yvette Nicole Brown (Avengers: Endgame, Community).
The cast thrilled the 6,500 fans packed into the massive convention center hall by releasing a new exclusive trailer for the upcoming season. The action-packed trailer focuses on the long-feared reemergence of the infamous villain Sauron, heralding the return of darkness and evil to Middle-earth after many years of hard-won peace across all realms. The trailer also highlighted the creation of the Rings of Power, created with the aid of Sauron’s powers of deception and betrayal.
Fans also got excited to see glimpses of many fantastical and fearsome creatures appearing this season, including a young Shelob, an army of Barrowwights, the hill-troll Damrod, a sea worm, and even Ents! The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 premieres exclusively on Prime Video on August 29, 2024.
In Season 2 of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Expelled by Galadriel, without an army or allies, the emerging Dark Lord must now rely on his cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, allowing him to subjugate all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on the epic scale and ambition of Season One, the new season plunges even its most beloved and sensitive characters into a wave of rising darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of disaster. As friendships weaken and kingdoms begin to crumble, the forces of good—Elves and Dwarves, Orcs and Humans, Wizards and Harfoots—will struggle even more valiantly to hold on to what matters most to them: each other.
The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is produced by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Penn and Patrick McKay. They are joined by executive producers Lindsay Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill and Jennifer Hutchison, co-executive producer and director Charlotte Brandstrom, producers Kate Hazell and Helen Shang, and co-producers Claire Buxton, Andrew Lee, Glenys Mullins and Matthew Penry-Davey. Additional directors for season two include Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper.
