Kalki 2898 AD: Director Nag Ashwin’s futuristic action film “Kalki 2898 AD” has seen a remarkable response, selling over 500,000 tickets in just 2 days after the presale launch. This has resulted in an impressive box office revenue of more than ₹16.2 crores for the movie, which features leading stars Prabhas and Deepika Padukone.
The eagerly anticipated “Kalki 2898 AD” is scheduled to hit the big screen on Thursday, June 27, with advance ticket bookings commencing on June 23.
According to a report from Sacnilk, “Kalki 2898 AD” has achieved an outstanding gross business of over ₹14.5 crore within two days solely from the Telugu markets.
The film boasts a stellar cast including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani, capturing nationwide attention.
The start of production for ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ faced an initial setback due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, filming resumed in July 2021 at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. The movie’s release was pushed from May 2024 to June 2024 due to the 2024 Indian General Elections. The high level of anticipation for the film is evident from the substantial number of tickets already sold 2 days before the movie’s release.
As implied by the title, the movie is based in 2898 AD within a post-apocalyptic backdrop. ‘Kasi’, a city turned into a desert, is the only known city in the world and it is governed as a dictatorship with the god king Supreme Yaskin as its leader. The movie draws significant inspiration from Hindu Mythology and even retells the events of the Mahabharata to enhance the storyline.
It was predominantly filmed in Telugu but also incorporates Hindi and is set to be released in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam. This also marks Deepika Padukone’s debut in Tollywood. The film has garnered international attention and is anticipated to earn ₹200 Crore on its Thursday release day.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ had a budget of ₹600 Crore, indicating a strong belief in the production’s quality. Actor ‘Prabhas’ of Bahubali fame is expected to achieve his highest box office opening with this movie, surpassing Bahubali 2 at ₹121 Crore and Salaar-Part 1 at ₹90.7 Crore.
