Odisha sees its highest single-day Covid spike

Medical Gloves To Protect Against Covid19

Bhubaneswar: The Covid-19 tally in Odisha registered its highest number in a single day on Thursday when it touched 21,099 with 114 deaths reported. Ganjam district had the largest share with 540 cases.

Odisha recorded 1,264 new positive cases within 24 hours. The I&PR Department said that 847 of the cases were reported from quarantine centres and 417 from local contacts. The latter includes 61 identified cases from a local flour mill of Mancheswar Industrial Estate, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation stated.

The flour mill case has jolted the district administration as there is a possibility of it spreading to other people. Apart from this, the Berhampur Circle Jail in Ganjam district is reeling under the outbreak of Corona virus as 33 prisoners and 11 staff members have been detected positive. The infected prisoners have been kept under isolation on the jail campus and the staffers told to remain in home quarantine.
